Accessibility

A private company's website carries no named-standard duty in the United Kingdom. The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 apply to public sector bodies, and Butter is not one, so we do not claim compliance with them.

What applies to us directly is the Equality Act 2010 and its duty to make reasonable adjustments as a provider of a service. The named standard above is our own choice, made because of what the product is.

• The site works with a keyboard alone, and we do not suppress the browser's focus indicator.
• A skip link takes you past the navigation to the content.
• Headings are real headings, in order, and landmarks are marked up so a screen reader can move between them.
• Every field on the contact form has a label attached to it, and the fields a browser can fill are marked so it will.
• Targets are at least 44 pixels on a touch screen.
• The page reflows to a phone without a horizontal scrollbar, and text enlarges without content being lost.
• Nothing plays, flashes or scrolls on its own, and where a heading fades in as a page opens, that is switched off if your system asks for reduced motion.
• The two sections a school is most likely to circulate are styled for printing.

This is what we know now. The audit exists to find what we do not, and its findings will replace this table rather than sit beside it.
